英国女作家弗吉妮娅·伍尔芙是意识流文学代表人物，被誉为二十世纪现代主义与女性主义的先锋。她患有严重的抑郁症，多次精神崩溃。
但这部电影并不只是讲述伍尔芙的人生故事，而是聚焦女性的精神领域，用印象式的片段和意识流的剪辑风格，讲述了20世纪不同年代三位女性改变自己一生的一天。
妮可·基德曼装了假鼻子，扮演伍尔芙慈急医院 ，气质大变。
她用诸微小的肢体语言将伍尔芙的敏感、神经质、脆弱和孤傲的心灵表现得惟妙惟肖。

这部电影根据英国唯美主义先锋作家王尔德的真实经历改编。
电影开始时，王尔德还是伦敦上流社会的宠儿，他谈吐幽默，作品充满机锋，马翠霞几乎每部戏剧都在舞台上取得轰动效果。
但后来却因为和美少年阿尔弗莱德·道格拉斯（Jude Law 裘德洛饰）的一场相遇，背负“严重猥亵罪”，被监禁入狱，强迫劳役两年。
下面这个片段是在审判王尔德的法庭上，公诉人质问他"What is the love that dare not speak its name?"（什么是不敢说出名字的爱？）时，他悲壮感人的回答。

两人因诗相识，成为恋人。魏尔兰因此抛下妻子，与兰波流浪到伦敦，过着极为贫困潦倒的生活。途经比利时，兰波提出分手，被魏尔兰开枪打伤。魏尔兰因此入狱。之后，兰波四处流浪，又有过15年的冒险生涯，最后病逝于马赛，年仅37岁。
看简介，就已经很狗血，而电影的表现手法甚至更加癫狂。
但千万不要因此而错过了小李子的颜值巅峰啊！
他在此片中的表演极其灵动，狂放不羁，浑身都闪着光芒，让人挪不开眼。
而兰波本人也是一个天才美少年，有描写称，他的“一双眸子像灼金的星子一般犀利，像夏夜一样的深沉”。
这个“被缪斯手指触碰过的孩子”，14岁就开始写诗，他有着一个矛盾不安的灵魂，诗歌充满想象。
下面这个片段中，兰波讲述了让自己决心感悟人生、成为诗人的一件事。
视频中提及的这个小故事最终激发兰波写下一首反战诗《幽谷睡者》。
